A story of Small Steps, but Big Actions.
The Safe Women Clinic at Badr Hospital, Helwan University was established as an important step toward strengthening the medical response to gender-based violence and supporting women’s health and safety. This milestone was achieved with the support and leadership of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Rasha Refaie, whose guidance and vision played a key role in turning this initiative into reality. The clinic was inspired by HMSA’s advocacy efforts addressing gender-based violence and its commitment to promoting safer and more supportive healthcare environments.
The clinic serves as a specialized medical response unit dedicated to providing women and girls who have experienced violence with comprehensive and high-quality care. Services include psychological first aid, medical support, information and case documentation, as well as referral pathways within the hospital and to external services such as the Women’s Complaints Office when legal or social support is required. These services are provided free of charge, ensuring accessible care and support for those in need.
The establishment of the Safe Women Clinic reflects HMSA’s ongoing dedication to advocacy, healthcare improvement, and community well-being, contributing to a more supportive and responsive healthcare system for women.
